I read Damian's post on the now-historic (hyperbole intended) Hudson River plane crash, and decided to share what I heard on talk radio.
I tuned in to WFAN around 3:45pm yesterday and heard Francessa give a brief synopsis of what happened – flock of geese, crash in river, everyone survived. He did not belabor the point.
About ten minutes after hearing this, G. text-messaged me, asking if I heard about the plane crash. I relayed what I heard, and that was that.
I read Damian's post this morning, and his description of the MSM's coverage, and I knew I was in trouble.
Sure enough, like a moth to a flame, I just had to hear what Benn Gleck had to say…he basically had a Mormon spiritual session this morning, talking about miracles and perspective. I hope he gets mocked by his producer Stu for his maudlin take.
First of all — it was not a miracle, per se. Planes are designed to float long enough to get the passengers off. For once, this actually worked. Miraculous, relatively speaking, but not a Jesus-made-the-blind-see kind of miracle.
Second, it's about time a pilot managed to ditch a plane properly. Congratulations to him for doing his JOB.
Third, since this happened in full view of the New York City MEDIA elites, I am not surprised to hear they focused on this story to the exclusion of all others. An American life weighs more on the MEDIA's scale of importance than a Palestinian death or freezing Ukranian.
News flash: a plane ditched, and people helped out the passengers. This does not prove that everything will be okay. It does not prove the existence of God. The people in Darfour are too busy surviving to give "Atta-boys" to the kind New Yorkers who helped rescue the passengers.
Now that's perspective.

LOL…thanks for the Save, Tone.
For me, it all started when my boss came with the NEWSFLASH in the hallway around 4:00PM.
“Did you hear about the PLANE CRASH in New York?”
“No,” I replied, somewhat startled. “Was it an act of terrorism?” [This happened in 24 last week.]
“Naw…”
I went on the Net and saw the Drudge coverage. Went on Fox, and saw their coverage. Read the details, and wondered why they were treating it a disaster of epic proportions, and why they treated yesterday like a slow news day.
My wife put the TV on at around 6:30, and Channel 7 was coming to me “LIVE FROM NEW YORK”.
“I KNOW A LOT HAS HAPPENED, SO LET ME RECAP TODAY’S EVENTS..BLAH BLAH BLAH.”
Since all 150 people survived, they had to stir the pot and talk about the ice cold water and other hazards, like The Shark King, who wouldn’t even waste his time on this story.
I go on Yahoo this morning to check mail, and there’s a pic of Phil Hendrie’s Korean War veteran being hailed a hero for “being prepared”.
You’re right…I guess everyone should get a pat on the back for doing their job, and overcoming LME and Murphy’s Law. How low society’s standards have become!
Total MEDIA-driven sensation.
My wife say it a miracle, so it a miracle. My church will be having study session on it this weekend.
