Quotes from the Year 3000
The following is translated into early 21st century vernacular for your convenience:
"Can you believe people thought you DIED the instant a plane broke apart? Ha ha. I guess they wanted to give solace to the families. I'd hate to be free falling for minutes, knowing I'm dead, before splattering like an insect on concrete. Thank goodness for [CENSORED DAILYSKEW]."
***
"What's Elvis?"
***
"Can you believe people used to get rich by singing and dancing? And scientists were largely unknown and ignored by the populace? They would waste paper on making picture books of malnourished and deformed women, just for LOOKING at them. What an incredible WASTE. If they had only paid more attention to [CENSORED DAILYSKEW], we'd all be better off."

I love QftY2K.
stop worrying about society.
it is a myth, there is no society.
Huh? What was I worried about?
"There is no society."
You sound like the Nihilist.
Type 5
well, it sounded like you were looking at modern times and human nature and lamenting about the way people are and wondering when society will change, or at least hoping that it would in the future.
popular culture is very disfunctional but I stopped waiting for it to change or hoping that it would and gave up.
I stopped watching the news, I stopped watching tv, I stopped listening to the radio and wouldnt you know it?
the second I stopped paying attention to "society" it didnt matter to me anymore.
I dont care what popular culture or society becomes as long as I live outside of it.
you bring up people getting rich for singing and dancing while scientists are largely unknown even though the work they do is much more important.
you speculate in the future people will be more sophisticated and society will correct itself, but what if it doesnt?
what if the people in the future are just as screwed up as people are now, or possibly even worse?
Is there anything that we can do about it?
yeah, the world is messed up now and youre holding out hope that people will be more right thinking in the future, but Im not so certain of that.
I cant be so confident that the next two or three generations that come along after us will be more enlightened or better off, I just dont know.
deep down I hope you are right and hope that the people of the future will be more together than the people of today but I dont expect it.
society is what it is and its a word people use to describe a greater good and a duty that every individual has to improve the world around them.
but its gotten to a point with me that ive turned it all off and I dont want to hear what the social engineers who are trying to change things think because I havent heard people with realistic answers.
So ive stopped worrying about the shallow entertainment that other people find interesting, and what this does to human nature because its all just too disturbing to me.
I just want to live my life on my terms and most of the time I think its best to ignore the headlines or what the herd is paying attention to because most people dont get it anyway.
I hope this clears up some of my earlier more nebulous statements.
