M.J. Funeral Program

- Choir singing, “We are going to see the king.”

- Pastor tells everyone to “Remember the time.”

- Mariah Carey covers “I’ll be there” for the 2nd time.

- Queen Latifah, representing the fans. “Michael was the biggest star on Earth.” Reads great Maya Angelou poem written for the service.

- Lionel Ritchie sings, “Jesus Won’t Let You Down.” Great performance.

- Barry Gordy [sic], the guy who signed M.J., talks about memories of Motown. Great speech. “The greatest entertainer that ever lived.”

- Stevie Wonder

- Kobe and Magic Johnson — “You eat Kentucky Fried Chicken?!?”

- Free Willy theme song performed by Jennifer Hudson.

- Al Sharpton met him in 1970? Inspiring speech. Micheal cleared the way for Oprah, Tiger, and Obama. “It’s not about mess. It’s about how his love message … he outdanced his doubters … I want his three children top know — there was nothin’ strange about your daddy. It was strange the stuff he had to deal with.”

- John Mayer performed instrumental of “Why”. Reporters covering the story were mystified as to why he didn’t sing.

- Brooke Shields “I was 13 when we met … both of us needed to be adults at an early age … we didn’t collaborate, but we did was laugh! … Non-jaded. Mischievous … People refer to him as a king, but I saw him as the Little Prince. He saw everything with his heart.”

- Jermaine Jackson performed Charlie Chaplin’s, “Smile”. Best vocal performance of the ceremony. Incredibly touching.

- Side-note – each brother is wearing one sequinned glove.

- The King family pay tribute to Michael Jackson. Turns out Michael Jackson called and made Coretta Scott King smile while recovering from a stroke., calling her America’s true royalty.

- Congresswoman Shiela Jackson Lee on stage, reiterating people are innocent until proven guilty. She shared stories of M.J. lobbying for AIDs research and visiting injured troops at Walter Reed Hospital.

- Had to stop listening to the coverage … when I got back, they were playing the Jackson 5 on the Ed Sullivan show. Smokey Robinson came on afterwards and told a funny story about how he had written the song and M.J. performed it better than he did as a 10 year old!

- Child from Britain’s Got Talent performs that Smokey Robinson song.

- Tour manager speaks. Introduces the Infinite Crisis Earth-O version of ” We Are The World”. This was followed by “Heal the World”. That was cool, since the songs are so similar in style and theme.

- Jermaine Jackson thanks everyone.

- Marlin told a funny story of spotting M.J. in a record store, wearing a disguise. “Maybe now they will leave you alone.”

- Michael’s daughter gave a tearful farewell. She loves her dad. ‘Nuff said.
