Random questions on headlines I happened to catch this weekend; L.R grasping at straws?
Steve McNair died? Possible murder/suicide? What? Wasn’t he some great team leader and gutsy Quarterback? What happened to that MEDIA-created image? You mean he’s human, and not a computer-generated image on my screen?
The Honduran President will be escorted back into Honduras by an UN official? Where are we going with this? Will UN blue helmet troops be sent in to enforce the will of the General Assembly?
Brazil passed an amnesty bill for their illegal immigrants — anyone illegally in that country prior to February 1st gets a two-year free pass? Good luck enforcing that law? Do they even want to enforce that law, or just pacify their political right?
Sarah Palin resigns? Huh? How will Rush and company apologize for her actions?

Here’s some random feelings I had over the weekend:
I feel that conservative talk radio hosts, and conservative individuals and groups in general, are grasping at straws. There’s no stopping the movement towards legalizing gay marriage in this country. There’s no stopping the elimination of borders and immigration laws, allowing the free flow of people from poor areas into rich areas. There’s no stopping the socialization of healthcare.
Let’s face it, and let’s not lose sight of this — people got BURNED BIG TIME by the economy over the past ten years. If the Tech Bubble didn’t kill their 401k, the Mortgage Bubble/FINANCIAL CRISIS did.
People who bought into real estate investments got crushed. My friend the Haitian Sensation suggested that it’s like the banks got everyone to jump into a pit, and then dropped a huge rock on them. While everyone digs out of the rubble, they’re told they still owe, are delinquent, and have zero credit with anybody.
The talk radio hosts who are trying to teach us the virtues of capitalism cannot overcome with words the bad experiences people had. Those same words are what sold people on the get-rich-quick fallacy to begin with! People might be desperate, but they’re not going to follow that route again.
This time, people have chosen Government to bail them out, and they’ve chosen a leader who does not adhere to conservative Christian values … at least that’s what I got out of Reverend Wright on youtube.
While President Obama has yet to mail anyone a check (Where’s my check? Day 167) — he offers the HOPE that things will CHANGE … that things will be different, and different is better.
I would argue against this kind of change myself, but I know it’s HOPELESS. The economy seems so bad right now (CRISIS!), and the people want Big Brother to save them. It’s like the Old Testament, when the Israelites clamored for a King even though God had freed them from royal tyrrany. We’re in the land of the free, the home of the brave … and 52% of voters wants fairness for all, not freedom.

Great random thoughts.
By the way Steve McNair's situation was relatively downplayed. Compare to WWE's Chris Benoit murder/suicide coverage, which was a MEDIA STORM.
Regarding MEDIA created computer generated images on my screen- Kirby Puckett came to mind when you said that. Team leader, *All-Star* game team leader, This Week in Baseall legend, Mr. Charisma, lights up a room just by walking into it, ICON, sympathetic injury to end his career, rushed into Hall of Fame, and then THEY realize he's human battling emotional problems, aggression, and female addictions. So he gets buried (literally, too) and no one talks about the late great Kirby Puckett anymore because it's too embarrassing.

Right wing radio people and conservatives don't want the status quo to change. All of their fear mongering (Rush is #1 in ratings, O'Reily is #1 in ratings) keeps this country at the 50/50 cultural war.
I personally am ready to embrace whatever change that happens because I don't like the current healthcare system (not because I think I gov. controlled one would be better) because I know it will be undone, if it needs to be, down the road.
Granted your kids may be paying more taxes and may not have Social Security, and will be taking care of us when we are 80, but I'm sure they will manage because it's too hard to predict the future.
Last I checked the U.S. not only survived the Great Depression but eventually became a Super Power n 1945. (Thanks, Adolf.) Hey that's a nice T-Shirt. I'm sure it will go over well in retirement communities in South Florida.
Cant we have both "freedom" and justice too?
I notice when the myriad of talk radio hosts speak about freedom they are only talking about money.
They talk about lowering taxes and raising taxes by making people pay it to the government means that their "freedom" is being taken away.
they say freedom but they mean money.
if the government takes too many things over they can go too far as well, but havent the private sector, (banks, insurance companies, ceo's etc) also gone too far?
youre right, they blew it and people are hurting now financially everywhere.
everybody's in debt and everybody has less money to spend too as layoffs continue.
what bothers me the most in all of this is i turn on the radio and everybody on the air still sounds the same as two or three companies seem to own all of the stations in a market.
Air america was taken off, Neil Rogers quit, and there is no more phil hendrie.
I at least want to hear something different than the usual right wing analysis but its just not there and npr is too boring.
and I think the average person out there is more afraid right now of not being able to pay their bills than they are of the terrorists.
world war two created a lot of jobs in this country and everybody went to work on it, unfotunately if we had a world war 2 today it would create a lot of jobs in china or somewhere else but not here.
people who performed manual labor had unions and better pay back then plus a government that was on their side keeping the jobs here in this country.
I dont think we have any of that stuff now so a new world war 2 wouldnt save us.
I know i cant change the world as it is either and now just want to survive in it.
what to do?
I dont know.
The RNC's from last year showed how out-of-touch the GOP is with the lower and middle classes.
The right-wing talking heads try to appeal to our sense of patriotism and "freedom".
Republican small business owners (and there are a lot) are silent. They can complain about Obama all they want, but taxes, insurance, and the insanely tough overhead to run a small business has always existed regardless of who the prez was.

A Tamarac woman shot herself in the head when the real estate agent and locksmith knocked on her apartment to evict her.
She was very active on Facebook and Myspace. She lost her job and was gonna be homeless.
What can Obama do? What can anyone do?
cant run the economy if you dont have a customer.
cant have a customer if nobody has any money.
pretty much 10% unemployment nationally and a friend I know just got laid off so there is no sign of that stopping anytime soon.
Its hitting everybody, even if youve still got a job there will likely be far less business/profit.
but we all know this already, so what more can be said?
I have a solution but Im afraid to say it because I know how it will be received, and when it comes to politics or political issues most people are married to a philosophy and cant change their mind.
too many of the democrats are too out of touch as well and I dont think theyve got what it takes to lead us out of this mess because they are more compromising than they are radical.
Lemme know your plan. I promise I won't rip it.
Ill put it up as my next post, when i have the time, maybe a couple of days from now.
The Clear Channel employees are basically saying this about Sarah Palin:
- She's cashing in for her family
- Her kids need her now, especially after the Letterman fiasco
- All the public attention has proven to be a distraction; she's unable to perform her duties and push her agenda. She's doing Alaska a FAVOR by letting the Lt. Governor press ahead, without all the attention
- In 2016, she'll only be 52 years old
- Any Republican running for office in 2010 will be calling her for an endorsement

G. correctly pointed out that if she and her family couldn't handle the pressure in Alaska, she definitely wouldn't be able to handle being Vice-President!
I have no idea what she actually said, except for a few clips I've heard here or there. If she's leaving to cash in to pay the bills, I can respect that. If you can choose to win life's lotto for yourself and family, that's a no-brainer.

Did RAW say Neil Roger quit? About time. I hope he continues enjoying the slot machines in Canada.
even on a bad day, he was much more listenable and funny than most other talk show hosts even on a bad day.
towords the end he was phoning the show in literally from his house, and was getting a bit stale, but that doesnt change the sad fact that now there is nothing for me to listen to on the radio.
I will be downloading a lot of vintage phil hendrie, and have downloaded every show he did from the year 2000 which I am listening to as i type this.
"last days of talk radio" indeed.
I say its already dead.
