A USA Today poll in May 2010 revealed that a whopping 92% of Americans believe in God. This poll, like many others of its ilk, is very misleading. • Comment on Do You Hate The Word “Staycation”? by D-Mon
Never heard of that word until today. It's LaME as heck. Staycation's wiki page is horrible...really shows why many people don't take wikipedia seriously. I was surprised to see that it is a U.K. word from 2003. But that's another drawback of wiki- it also lists an obscure origin. Staycation apparently become mainstream in the UK during t […]

Cirque du Soleil Banana Shpeel Cool New Show

I’ve seen clips of Cirque du Soleil on Youtube. Their shows are amazing, even on a small box in my web browser. The crazy aerial stunts, with performers twisting frenetically in the air and flying all over the place, is so futuristic to me. When you see a guy ripping off a suit jacket and tie, expressing some point while running on top of a wheel spinning fast in the sky, you know that this is the crossroads where art and entertainment meet.

It’s like the designers of their shows take a piece of every cool element learned from previous stage show formats or movie sets, and take those elements to create the next level of human performance. I dare anyone who says, “There’s nothing new under the sun,” to take their cynical eyes and watch a Cirque du Soleil show, like Banana Shpeel. There’s no way they can walk away from that still feeling nothing new can happen.

Cirque du Soleil pushes the boundaries of human performance and precision, while raising the bar for performance art. Their new show, Banana Shpeel, takes their innovative style and applies it to some old-school Vaudeville.

The clips I’ve seen so far of Banana Shpeel on their youtube channel look hilarious and awesome. It’s about a young actor named Emmett (also the name of my dog, how cool is that) who is trying to make it in entertainment. A producer named Shmelky ends up controlling him while teasing him with fame and fortune. Luckily, a strange character shows up named the Banana Man … and who knows? I think he’ll save the day, but I guess you’ll have to see the show to find that out!

Be sure to check out Banana Shpeel on the web to learn more about the show. It’s currently set to show in Chicago and New York.
