2009 World Series Game 6 Matsui Andy Pettitte Chad Durbin Joba Joe Buck Chase Utley Damaso Marte Flava Flav Mariano Rivera 2009 WORLD CHAMPIONS NEW YORK YANKEES

I’ve opted to listen to John and Susan’s call for the 1st few innings. Here’s my impression:

- Matsui — World Series MVP

- Matsui — Hall of Fame

- Matsui — Pedro’s daddy

- Andy — gutty. Love that cutter to strike out Utley!

- Damon — damn. I hope the lead holds up, so Damon can celebrate!

- Chad Durbin — bring it.

- Chad Durbin — Charlie Manuel is treating this like a contest in May.

- Texiera – WOOOoooooooooh! “A ribbie single….”

- A-Rod walks. Bye-bye, Chad.

- “Hideki Matsui, with the best game-clinching game this side of Reggie Jackson … a two-run homer, a two-run single, and a two-run double! Six RBIs!”

- J.A. Happ technically did not have any runs charged against him. How cheap was that?

- Aaaaannnnd Joba is warming up in the 6th. THEEEEEEEE….

- ANDY PETTITTE! CLAP, CLAP, CLAP-CLAP-CLAP! ANDY PETTITTE! CLAP, CLAP, CLAP-CLAP-CLAP!

- Listening to Joe Buck as I watch some replays on mlb.com — boy, he’s sooooooo enthusiastic when the Yankees do something good … NOT! He sounds horrified when he says stuff like, “Gone,” or “Off the wall.”

- And a standing ovation for Andy Pettitte … Andy gives the crowd a “Tip of the cap”(tm).

- Nice job by Joba.

- There’s nothing better than watching Chase Utley get called out on a check swing strike three! Great job, Damaso Marte!

- I love that Phil Hughes is warming up for the 8th. Give the kid more postseason experience.

- I love the Flava Flav cameo in the Sprint Mobile Phone commercial.

- And here comes the Diamond Mind great Scott Eyre, to face Matsui … when will teams figure out that he hits lefties, too? Damn.

- Mariano is warming up! I guess Hughes will take a seat this evening….

- Cano be strugglin’.

- Marte strikes out Ryan Howard!

- Joe Buck (horrified sad voice): “And here comes Mariano Rivera.”

- Mariano strikes out cheat character Werth!

- Ibanez battles Rivera and earns a double to center field.

- Pedro Feliz … POPPED up … Posada … he’s got it … three outs.

- Joe Buck (excited happy voice): “Barehand pick-up … what a play by Feliz!”

- Tim McCarver trying to do his darnedest to jinx Mariano Rivera.

- Matt Stairs, doing a Rusty Staub impersonation, lines out to Jeter. One out.

- Let’s tune out Joe Buck … back to John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman.

- Cool … the audio is slightly ahead of the video.

- Aaannnd he walked him. Ruiz has been another cheat character in this postseason.

- Swisher … makes the catch. Two away.

- Shane Victorino … he’s a good candidate for the final out.

- “One strike away from a Worlds Championship,” says John Sterling.

- “Everyone packed, everyone standing, everyone rooting,” says Sterling.

- “They are that close.”

- Victorino really working Mariano over … he’s now at 40 pitches!

- Full count. 41 pitches. Can he get him on number 42.

- Yes! Ground ball to Cano! On pitch number 42, number 42 closes out the World Series! As Sterling said, “They’ve reached the pinnacle! The 2009 Yankees are World Champions!”

So happy for Hideki, A-Rod, and all the rest who have been part of a World Championship for the first time!

And big ups and congratulations to the four horsemen — Pettitte, Posada, Jeter, and Rivera!
