leapfish social media realtime search
I decided to check out a new approach to search on the web called leapfish. They had a recent press release that talked about how they are combining the best of the web with social media, and presenting search results that are hidden on other search engines.
I tried out leapfish with a subject near and dear to my heart – NEMO disease. Prior to this, I had done several searches with another popular search engine to learn about this genetic defect that my son has.
Well, I found the search results with leapfish to be excellent! I found websites by other families who have children with the disease, articles on the subject, blogs, and pictures — all on one screen. Plus, you could easily switch between the three biggest search engines.
The real time search turned up a twitter post from a day ago dealing with a class field trip for a kid named Nemo (kinda funny, considering the class trip in the movie Finding Nemo). I didn’t expect to find much on NEMO disease here, since it’s relatively unknown.
I tried out just Nemo in the real time search, and found lots of interesting twitters, pics, videos, as well as current trending topics.
The folks at leapfish appear to have taken the best of other search engines like A9 and Yahoo!, and made it better. This seems to be the way of the web. I recall over a decade ago, when Alta Vista and Netscape were popular … now it’s Google and Firefox.
Things change quickly on the web. What once was AOL’s social domain now belongs to Facebook. Blogs have now been enhanced and overtaken by Twitter.
It’s amazing how things change. I certainly hope that leapfish catches on. Their style of search was effective, and rich with information. I like how you can go from traditional to real-time with the click of a button. Very cool.
I went ahead and signed up, and linked my Facebook and Twitter to the homepage. It’s a nice all-in-one presentation.
