"Dr." Hasan, Fort Hood Massacre, Drudge headlines, Lazy Man’s Ethics
Well, I've been out of the loop this week, news-wise. I decided to give Drudge a try today, and, boy, the headlines surrounding the Hasan Fort Hood massacre were as I feared.
Apparently, "Dr." Hasan had made contact with some nutty Imam cleric under the guise of doing a "research paper." This a classic excuse for the guilty intellectual — as I recall, Pete Townsend from The Who used a similar excuse to get out of a child porn investigation.
Well, from what I read in one of the articles, the DoD and FBI had some joint task force investigation going on … one of the investigators ran across communications between "Dr" Hasan and the nutty Imam, investigated it and found that the Psycho-Psychiatrist was doing a research paper on the effects of war on soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
What a nutty Imam has to do with that topic is beyond me, but this investigator from DoD/FBI determined this was a plausible story.
Look, it's easy to point fingers at the investigator, but seriously — can you imagine being that person trying to accuse a Major and Psychiatrist who happens to be Muslim of making contact with a terrorist in this politically-correct devolving world we live in?
Please — that would be like deliberately stepping on a 3rd rail, career-wise. The investigator probably needed a lot more proof, and valued his job (and, by extension, feeding his family) more than some risky investigation.
In this recession, can you blame the guy?
Unfortunately, 13 people are dead.
Welcome to Lazy Man's Ethics in America — where the dollar is more important than life itself, and where individuals cannot survive without money.
