Echoes of Katrina, GMA, Glenn Beck
Here's what I learned this morning:
- echoes of Katrina — MEDIA reporting locals are angry that aid workers are rescuing foreigners and not Haitians
- GMA found a little girl adopted by a family in Iowa alive and well, along with other kids and the orphanage intact
- my friend's family in Haiti is alive
- Hospital ship USS Comfort will be departing from Baltimore today (?) And will arrive in Port-Au-Prince Monday (?)
- USS Vinson arrived today at Port-Au-Prince airport. Plans are still being made for troop deployment (?)
- there is a bottle-neck of aid distribution at the Port-Au-Prince airport. Planes are circling in the air for hours; getting aid out of the airport is slow
- talked with Zane Black; he understood where I was coming from with Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. He said, "Can't put our faith in men." He also said, "The apocalypse happened in Haiti"
- Glenn Beck expounded on Haiti after a caller started bemoaning the corrupt Government down there:
– Americans will give until it hurts
– if he was president, he'd ask everyone to pray
– the Government needs to put on a military show of force to prove to Haitians they are safe
– the Government should not donate aid, since all governments involved are corrupt
– let the private sector provide aid
– criticized Government's inability to rebuild in Detroit (referring to jobs?)
– criticized Obama reacting slowly to Fort Hood and underwear bomber, and quickly to Haiti; believes it's because Haiti is a foreign country;
– Obama is writing Haiti story for Newsweek magazine
– 72 hours have passed; the military needs to act quickly
OPINION ALERT
I think discussing the politics of Haiti is highly inappropriate right now. I will get into that topic once rescue efforts cease. While there is hope that someone might be alive under the rubble, my thoughts and prayers are focused on miraculous rescues of those trapped.
Someone should remind Glenn of the old axiom, "When you assume, you make an ass of u and me." Don't assume people will give, Glenn. Use your platform to encourage giving!
