Water main broke
Breaking news: a water main broke in the city of Sunrise, Florida. Water is out for the homes on the street.
I was pleasantly surprised earlier when I called city of Sunrise to report the gushing water that I wasn't the first person to call. I was a little disappointed when the dispatcher had the right avenue, but the wrong street. I guess the person who called before misspoke.
I was just thinking this morning, before seeing this, about what it was like to not have water and electricity after Hurricane Wilma, and how that was nothing compared to what the folks in Haiti are going through.
I mean, we had warning before the hurricane. We had supplies and storm shutters. We were "prepared" and it was still a clusterf*** afterwards — waiting on line for hours for gas, ice, and FEMA cards … each day revolving around how you were going to get through the next …
… and that's nothing compared to what the people of Haiti are going through.
I mean, what good are emergency supplies if they're buried under rubble?
It took two weeks to get back to normalcy here after a relatively minor hurricane … how long will it take for Haiti to recover from this apocalyptic event?
The death toll over there is unfathomable. It's too many to comprehend.
