A-Rod Confesses

Breaking news from Francessa on WFAN: A-Rod, in an interview with Peter Gammons, has admitted to doing steroids between 2001 and 2003.

Quick opinion: This shows he's pandering to the writers, and wants to be in the Hall. He doesn't want to repeat Clemens' mistake.

  1. Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez admitted during an interview on ESPN that he used performance-enhancing drugs for a three year period from 2001-2003, while playing for the Texas Rangers.

Rodriguez made the admission to veteran baseball reporter Peter Gammons today in a taped interview, during which A-Rod discussed allegations that he tested positive for steroids in 2003. The network showed snippets of the interview Monday afternoon. A complete version of the interview will view on “SportsCenter” Monday at 6 p.m.

Rodriguez told Gammons, “I’m very sorry and deeply regretful,” adding that he was young, naive, and “stupid.”

“To be honest with you,” Rodriguez said, “I don’t know exactly what substance I was guilty of using.”

  2. So, he’s not confessing. He’s pleading ignorance. Great.

  3. A true confession from the heart would have been:

“Yeah, I did steroids from 2001 to 2003. A lot of guys were. The reason why I did them was because I thought I would get an edge. I stopped when MLB started to test because I didn’t want to get into trouble.”

  4. Tony, I just saw the 2 minute clip.
    Nice acting job.

He’s sincere until the last few seconds, where he won’t say the exact substance he took.

In my opinion, he legally can’t say what “it” is- getting anabolic steroids is a crime, and the authorities would question him about who he bought it from. Huge can of worms.

In this LME world, that’s as close as we’re going to get for an admission.

Anyway, let’s play ball. The MEDIA will let this go now.

  5. I am not rattling fantastic with English but I line up this real leisurely to interpret .

  6. Sox/Tiggers rain delay as they begin the eighth, scoreless. Peter Gammons is yapping on ESPN. God, he’s nauseating.
