Here’s a cool introduction video to Yele Haiti:
I’ve donated to Yele Haiti (I learned today that Yele means scream in creole; so, according to Wyclef, it’s a cry for freedom) in the past, and I went ahead and made a $10 donation this evening.
Sure — I’m struggling with bills and really don’t have any room to breathe financially … but I feel it is important to give SOMETHING back to help SOMEONE out there.
Ten bucks is a quarter tank of gas, three McDonald’s Happy Meals, a movie ticket … all kinds of inane pleasures, or needs that can be deferred. Those $10 are not going to heal my mind or enrich my soul … unless I bought and read a really great spiritual book, but even then, I could get the same enrichment with books that I, like, already own? Or a spiritual podcast on stitcher for free?
I can replace those $10 with SOMETHING … the person benefiting from those ten bucks in Haiti CAN’T.
So, if you’re blessed to have a job in this “great” economy, quit being a loser and donate today.
Damian and I will be recommending charities on occasion; Damian keeps an eye on great charities to donate to as well, so I’m sure we’ll have some great recommendations in the coming months.
