Just wanted to take a moment to criticize Starbucks and the whole “drink coffee” thing.
You see, I’m Brazilian-American. I was raised on coffee. I was drinking coffee with my dad in the morning when I was five years old.
As I grew older, and reads about the detrimental effects caffeine has on health, like high blood pressure, I gave it up.
Nowadays, my MOM is still hooked on coffee, even though it’s tearing up her stomach lining. She’s got an ulcer, yet she insists on getting cuban coffee behind my back (my wife G. caught her in the act, drinking that thick shot of Cuban coffee at a local eatery).
So, while I “get” that Starbucks has healthy choices (I just bought some fruit slices – 90 calories – and a bottle of water), to me, with the coffee and fatty pastries, Starbucks is no better than McDonald’s.
That’s right. I said it.
The mighty Starbucks, from the holy city of Seattle – land of innovation and environmentalism and grunge rock, is no better than Mickey Dee’s.
I mean, dang, a “healthy” Chai has got, like, 310 calories in it! There coffees are easily over 100 calories a drink … and we know those pastries are competing with the Big Mac for who has more calories.
So, all you coffee addicts (emphasis on “addict” — it’s true), you can have your intellectual air of superiority that Starbucks provides while sucking down a high blood pressure potion. Give me a water and fruit slices, please. Thanks.
