Look, if Kanye West were white, and George W. Bush And Taylor Swift were black, we all know Kanye would get the Jimmy the Greek/Kramer treatment. He'd be labeled a racist.
However, being black in America is a whole lot different than being white.
Blacks have to deal with centuries of racial prejudice and discrimination, as well as modern isolated whites who treat blacks like zoo animals when they see curly hair for the first time, asking questions like, "how do you deal with that hair?" while petting the black person's head.
The above actually happened to someone I know and love.
I mean, when G. and I go to a predominantly white-area restaurant and get stared at by old white women, or get forced comments like, "we're so glad to have ya!" I mean, is it any wonder that blacks openly criticize whites or try to look out for their fellow brothers or sisters?
Anyway — while what Kanye did was classless and wrong, and it could be argued he did it to bring attention to himself … heck, you could easily argue that MTV staged this controversy on purpose, like they probably did with the Bruno/M&M thing at the Movie Awards … I give him a free pass for playing the ultimate heel, whether it was real or contrived.
